2. How long have you run the perfumery in Ålesund, and what is the background story?
We have a long and proud history in Ålesund. I started working in these very premises on January 1st, 1995, and have been part of an incredible journey through different chains such as Esthetique and Kicks, before finally finding our home as Skin Tonic. Even though the name on the door has changed over the years, the passion for our profession and our customers has remained the same for more than 30 years.

2. When did you become part of Skin Tonic, and what was the background for joining the chain? We became part of Skin Tonic on November 23, 2022. The background was that Syver Aure Torvik wanted to establish a Skin Tonic perfumery here, and I was more than happy to join the team. Being part of a strong Norwegian chain allows us to combine national strength with local ownership. We have carefully tailored our product selection to our customers and always strive to offer everyone the very best service.
3. What is the best part of being a Skin Tonic perfumery? It’s the sense of community and the freedom to focus on what we do best: personal service and genuine professional expertise. We truly feel at home in a chain that values the unique character of each local store.
4. What is Ålesund like in the summer, and why should people choose it as their holiday destination this year? Summer in Ålesund is magical! The city has been named one of Norway’s largest cruise ports, and during the summer months it is buzzing with life and activity. The combination of Art Nouveau architecture, fresh sea air and fantastic hiking opportunities just outside the city – such as climbing the steps up to Mount Aksla, is truly unique. Here, you can enjoy urban shopping and raw, spectacular nature all in one day.
5. What is the best part of your everyday work? The very best part is meeting our customers. For me, it’s about genuine care for each and every one of them. My goal is that customers leave the store almost floating, with a smile on their face – and feel just as happy when they get home and start using the products.
6. If you were to describe your perfumery in three words, what would they be?
Expertise, inspiration and well-being.
7. Why do you believe local stores and perfumeries are so important to the community? We help create life and vibrancy in the city centre. 8. Which fragrance reminds you most of summer in Ålesund? For me, it’s the scent of fresh sea spray blended with light, floral notes – like a sunny day on top of the mountain, overlooking the islands. That’s why Flåm by Memo is a perfect choice.
